SEM Jobs Outlook Good

BOSTON, MA - Forrester Research forecasts strong growth in search engine marketing ("SEM") through 2012.  See below.  I can only imagine what this growth means for companies' hiring plans.
  • Search marketing spend is expected to triple in five years, growing at a CAGR of 26 percent to $25 billion by 2012:
    • Paid search is expected to account for the bulk of that spending, growing from $4.5 billion to $10.1 billion during the forecast period.
    • Organic search engine optimization (SEO) is expected to grow from $1.9 billion to $8.9 billion.

    Even without the report it seems that the market for SEM/SEO folks is good. I just went through a round of interviews and every agency I met with said they couldn't find enough people to hire. What's your take on this shortage? I feel that part of it has to do with salaries that aren't being raised to correct the supply-demand imbalance.
